RENOWNED PUBLICANS SANDRA AND JOSÉ DE OLIVEIRA OPEN THE DOORS OF THEIR MOST RECENT VENTURE, THE NORTH MELBOURNE HOTEL.
With a rich history of establishing food led pubs in historic buildings across Melbourne, owners of Bouzy Rouge Sandra and José De Oliveira return to North Melbourne where they first made their mark over thirty years ago.
The De Oliveiras are celebrated for their cheeky extravagance, dedication to Modern European food and warm and engaging service. Expect to pop your tongue-in-cheek when visiting North Melbourne Hotel, set in the glitz and glamour of a modern De Oliveira establishment with Mediterranean share fare and wine at incredibly reasonable prices.
Their newest venture offers thoughtfully sourced wines from France, Italy and Portugal and Australia at exceptionally low bar prices starting from $5 a glass. Supporting local breweries, the tap selection caters for both the sessional drinker and craft lover, with North Melbourne Hotel Draught at $4 a pot and rolling craft beers.
Menu options are a nod to the hotel’s carefully created spaces for dining or lounging – with smaller plate options such as steak tartare and fries for $14, Charcuterie plate $18 or Duck liver parfait with house pickles and toast $12 – and more substantial options such as The North seafood paella $32, 12 hour roasted lamb shoulder $26 or 1/2kg pot Portarlington mussels mariniere style $20.
Visit the playfully elegant new bar and eatery for casual dining and drinking at its finest.
SANDRA AND JOSÉ DE OLIVEIRA
José and Sandra commenced their careers in the hospitality industry over 30 years ago with local and international 5-star restaurants and hotels.
In 1987, they purchased the Sir Robert Peel, which achieved accolades for hotel of the year and constant media recognition for quality food and service — a new era for Melbourne hotel dining at the time.
After five years they moved on tot the Commercial Club Hotel (De Oliveira’s Restaurant) where they were twice winners of Hotel of the Year award and runner up in the 3AW Hotel of the year award.
1998 provided a new challenge to resurrect the almost derelict Highbridge Hotel — breathing new life and vision into this once notorious hotel, which then became the Prahan Hotel.
In 2002, José and Sandra worked their magic yet again, as owners and operators of the Palace Hotel, where they created an elegant space for casual wining and dining at this unique corner pub in South Melbourne.
2007 saw them transform the modest Dover Castle into one of Melbourne’s most revered hotels, the Bouzy Rouge. Bouzy Rouge has won the 3AW Pub of the Year, the Australian Hotels Association Award for Excellence in Back of House and Best Metropolitan Restaurant and continues to attract both critical acclaim and public attention
